Every holiday seaso
n, many local families, companies and faith-based groups make volunteerism part of their tradition of giving back.
Not only is volunteering fun and fulfilling, it’s a terrific way to express our heartfelt compassion for neighbors in need.
With this in mind, Heart of Florida United Way is again offering the Living United Through the Holidays Guide, which provides dozens of great opportunities to support local nonprofit agencies and the people they serve.
In addition to volunteer projects, the guide includes valuable tips for holiday giving, as well as agency “wish lists,” for those who’d like to organize food, gift or supply drives. Also included is information about United Way’s Community Baby Shower, being held Nov. 11-Dec. 8 to collect diapers, formula and other items for at-risk mothers and infants.
One of this year’s most unique volunteer opportunities is a Mexican Posada or Christmas Celebration, which the Hope CommUnity Center is hosting on Dec. 16. Volunteers are needed to help with the party and also collect and distribute gifts for the children of immigrants and working-poor families.
If you look great in a Santa suit, the Orlando Day Nursery would like to schedule guest appearances during classroom parties. Volunteers are also needed to help children decorate cookies and complete craft projects. Dates are flexible.
In addition, Seniors First Inc., is seeking volunteers to help deliver Christmas meals and warm hugs to Orange County residents served by Meals on Wheels.
Whatever your interests, United Way’s holiday guide provides everything you need. Today is the day YOU can make a difference! Click here to get started.
