Times being what they are, 2-1-1 receives nearly 500 calls per day from people who are facing really difficult circumstances.
Most are from families and seniors who need help with utilities and housing, but I recently had a chance to help a much younger caller.
Facing a complicated personal situation, Brianna didn’t know where to turn. Unable to confide in the adults in her life, she sounded like frightened little girl who felt desperate and alone.
As a senior crisis specialist, I was glad I had the training and skills to help. After discussing her situation and offering some helpful information and resources, I could hear a change in her voice. Before hanging up, she shared these words, which really made my day: “Before I talked to you, I was going to run away, but I’m okay now. Thank you for being there for me.”
