Today is EITC Awareness Day – Help Us Spread the Word!

’Tis the season to file your taxes. But that doesn’t mean it has to be a paperwork nightmare or even cost a penny to file….and how does a refund of up to $5,666 sound?

That’s what thousands of Central Floridians will be eligible to claim this year through the Earned Income Tax Credit —or EITC— which is credited with lifting more children out of poverty than any other federal program. For the many local residents who are struggling to pay their rent, feed their children and keep the lights on, EITC can really make a life-changing difference.

And though it sounds too good to be true, some families may even qualify for refunds of more than $20,000 by re-filing returns for the past three years.

By pumping millions of dollars back into the regional economy, EITC also provides a significant boost to local businesses and retailers, where dollars are typically spent. Last year alone, an astounding $422 million in refunds was distributed throughout Central Florida.

For these reasons and more, United Way is teaming up with WFTV Action 9 to present ETIC Awareness Day.

Throughout today’s morning, noon and evening news programs, WFTV is broadcasting live from the United Way 2-1-1 call center, where call specialists are answering questions and providing referrals to nearly 40 local VITA locations that are providing FREE tax preparation help.

In these difficult times, we want everyone to know about EITC!

To find out if you or someone you know qualifies for EITC, tune into today to WFTV, call 2-1-1 or click here.
