More Than 300 United Way Day of Action Volunteers Mobilize Across Region to Combat Hunger

On June 21, observed nationally as United Way Day of Action, more than 300 local volunteers moblized in a day of community service focused on alleviating hunger in Central Florida.

Fanning out across the tri-county region, volunteers took part in 28 projects ranging from feeding hungry children and sorting food pantry items to delivering food baskets to seniors in need.

Among the agencies receiving much-needed assistance were Coalition for the Homeless, Community Food and Outreach Center, Harvest Time International, Osceola Council on Aging, Orlando Day Nursery and 20 others.

It was against the backdrop of this terrific event that Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) also announced that it is directing $5.6 million this year to help alleviate hunger and homelessness in Central Florida where tens of thousands of families still struggle to afford the most basic needs.

HFUW wishes to thank the hundreds of individuals, groups and companies who supported Day of Action, including the United Way Women’s Leadership Council, Walt Disney World, Bank of America, Pepsi, Target, Rollins College, Fry Hammond Barr and many others.
